Welcome to the fourm. It's kind of slow around here but you can still get some good information and some do reply. We are trying to get a new home site developer and create a new WEB site. Thanks for posting. Nice rig you have and it's in really nice condition. Take care Mike

RE: WELCOME NEW MEMBERS (PLEASE POST HERE)

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to the forums,  im a fresh boat owner and happy with our new to us 83' Glastron SSV-151 with a 81 90HP Evinrude out back.  We were on a budget to get into our 1st boat and well from Land Locked Alberta Canada its hard to find a good boat in decent shape that is complete.   We did alot of shopping around and driving to and from looking at boats in our price range and finally purchaded this 83 ssv-151.   The boat was fairly complete.. i did run into some electrical issues that ive since diagnosed and fixed that were related to the power trim...  ended up being 2 faulty relays that had moisture damage..  those have since been fixed and im currently working on a couple odd wiring jobs on the boat b4 spring.   Next winter i hope to redo the interior seats myself so Im in the process of learning all i can pertaning to that aspect.

Looking forward to being apart of this forum and hopefully learn a few things along the way. Here are a couple pictures of our boat...

Hi-I just joined this site.  Need help.  Trying to restore a 1973 16 ft Carlson and cannot find the blue pleated upholstery similar to the original.  Does anyone make it or do I settle for something close.  Its a lot easier restoring an old muscle car.  Thnx- MBG

Welcome to the site TMO. I can't amagine the history you must know, I can just hope that you will be willing to share all that great knowledge with us here on the site. I know those Scimitars are rare and fetch a pretty penny even in rough shape. I will keep an eye out for you. Mike

RE: WELCOME NEW MEMBERS (PLEASE POST HERE)

Hi All,

Over the last 40 years I owned several  Glastrons and  Carlsons.

I worked @ a Glastron Dealership when I was a kid.  I saw all of these great boats from the early 70's first hand.

I bought a new boat every year for 5 years .... one of the perks of working @ a dealership.

I'm presently boatless and am trying to remedy that situation.

I have two Carlsons in mind ....

First choice - Scimitar

Second choice - CV23

I'm looking for any condition as long as the boat is somewhat complete.

I would appreciate any guidance you could offer...

Thanks

TMO

Hello everyone.

I am a new member and I thought that I would introduce myself.

I live in Pine City Minnesota and I own a 1972 Carlson CV-16SS. I have had it of about a year and half and have been working on it off and on for about that long. I also spent the last year building a new house on a lake so the boat hasn’t gotten that much attention.

What I have completed is the following. A new interior; I found a vinyl vender that was able match the orange color of my seat vinyl and heat press in the pleats.

I put a new floor in it and got the carpet in it. I was not able to find anything like the original for that.

I rebuilt the motor and modified it a little bit so that it is putting out around 150 HP. Had the head reworked with oversized values, bored out the cylinders a little and put in a high performance cam. The guy that did the head work for me said that it should be about 155 hp but I don’t think it’s that high. I just got it in the water for a test drive this fall and it really runs sweet.

The dash was missing and I could not find one anywhere so I have a tone of hours into making a new one out of carbon fiber. My brother in-law also needed one for his 73 CV-16SS, so I was able to make a mold out of his old one.

This winter I will complete the restoration and get it in the water for next season. I plan to wet sand the entire boat and buff it out. It won’t look like new but it will shine and look pretty good until I find the time to re-gelcoat it.

If you would like to see photos, just go to this link for my Google photo album.

I still need to add the photos with the interior and floor done so you might have to check back in a week or so if you want to see them.

Hello there and welcome to the site. It sound like you have the fever for the flavor of Carlson's.. LOL. I think you have one of the nicest styles of CV-16's out there, from the flow of the window frame to the fast sleek lines. Back in 2011 I had a blue and white 74' CV-16ss that i restored for 2 years, I did it all from new paint to new floor and interior. I too rebuilt the dash and powered it with a 1988 90hp Black Max Merc HO. It was fast.. I only had it in the water once and was waiting for the summer of 2013 when the big tornado hit here in Moore, Ok. and took my house and all the toy's. Thats when I bought the 72 Swinger so that I could get back on the water. The fella I got it from was in Texas and kept the boat I think in a bubble, as its in perfect condition. Good luck with your projects and please keep all of us in the loop with photo's..

Mike

Welcome to the site David.. I have always wanted to take one of the 57' Fire Flights and put a Seadoo system in it. But your best luck for finding pictures is to look on the fiber glassics  or the classic boat house sites for pictures.
