Hi Chad,  Good to see ya here.

You can see more pictures of this project over on the Main Forum  http://olered.activeboard.com/   I'll make a slide show movie of the entire project and post it here when I get done with it.

I got to visit with the fellow that has the other Scimitar near you a couple weeks ago, nice guy,  we talked about getting together this summer and making a Video of all four Scimitars running side by side ... that would be a Too Kool  !

George has his up for Sale, so I hope we can get together soon so it will be in the video,  I'll have mine back in the water in about 3 weeks,  then we're taking it up to Muscatine Iowa for that show up there.  The Muscatine show has become the biggest old and new boat show in the north east now I think,  everything from Old classic wood boats to late model fiberglass,  old and new hydroplane races, cardboard boat race,  drag race's ... it's gonna be a Hoot going up there.  The show starts May 15 through the 17th  ... Here's a Link ...

RE: The Big Split

Hi Auke, and Yes, I  am concidering putting the tanks back there,  I figure the gas tank being so far forward was a contribution to some of this damage.

I didn't figure on having to replace all the stringers,  that will kinda make me hurry to get it ready for the Muscatine show so I don't know if I'll get to the tanks at this time,  but having the hull split will sure make the transom mod easier.

I am Quessing that the top half of the boat weighs about  450 to 500 pounds, thats a Lot to be handling by hands, and the back, behind the transom area is glassed in, I had to lift the front first to cut free the transom tail.

I used ratchet straps that have a 1000 pound working load, for safety, and I used two on each point that I was lifting, one for lifting and one for a safety,  you really have to pay attention when you let lowering one of those straps and the spool fills up really quick.  If I were gonna do this job again I'd certainly use come-a-longs,  they give you Lots more distance of lift.

Great - you're leaving the dashboard and sides where they are. Saves a lot of hustle I reckon :) What do you think the weight is of the top, you think you can lift it with a couple of guys too?

Ps. are you thinking of moving the tank to the back (like two seperate ones?) I remember you mentioning that thought before. Please take as much as possible photos as I'm looking and learning :)!

The Big Split

I got the floor out of the Scimitar yesterday and found more than I expected,  the floor was seperated from the hull on the port side and the stringer on that side is mostly seperated from the fiberglass incasement.

Today I split the hull and decided to replace all three stringers.  here's a few pic's of the progress today.
