RE: 1980 Scimitar--travel / storage cover

Hi Roger,  I spelled your name right this time lol,  I edited the other one.

It don't surprize me that the seller had other offers after you ended the auction.  We have a couple guy's here on the forum from Austrailia,  it wouldn't surprize me if it was Greg that made the seller an offer to ship it over there,  he has shipped several boats over there from all over the U.S.  Greg has a Scimitar he bought from Ben, over there.  I've sold him several parts and shipped them to him.  We also have members from the UK, Sweeden, the Netherlands and Canada,  kinda tickles me that we have attention from so far away.

I kinda figured you were the bidder that made a $15,500 bid on Georges boat when it was on ebay a month of so back,  because your feedback score is 641 since you bought the green boat, and the bidder that bid on George's had a feedback score of 640.

George has re-listed his boat on ebay today,  he has lowered the Buy it Now price to $18,900  Thats a Beautiful boat,  I hope it does well.

RE: 1980 Scimitar--travel / storage cover

Hi Red~
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I did buy that green Scimitar on Ebay a few weeks ago. Funny story---a friend of mine had been looking for a Scimitar a couple of years back---he finally got tired of looking and ended up buying a boat from the next generation of Glastrons that were produced after the production of Scimitars ended---but he always kept his eye out for one out of interest---the day he emailed me the link of the one on ebay he said that this was what he had been searching for a couple of years ago but wasn't going to persue it because he already had 2 Glastrons  and did not need-- or want--a 3rd.

I studied  the ebay ad for a while and thought that it looked pretty interesting---low hours, same family owned it since it was new---never saw a dealer showroom because the owner's father was personal friends with Herb Carlson and he had bought it right off the assembly line, never been in salt water--always garaged, original trailer in good shape--yada yada yada-- I also noted that it was in Albuquerque, NM which is about a 5hr drive from where in live ( Pueblo, CO) and I knew I was going to be there on business a few days from that time. I emailed the owner a few questions and he emailed me right back saying he just had posted some additional photos and added a buy it now price.
So, I lokked at his buy it now--and then stared at the screen for a good 7 mins thinking of all the reasons I shouldn't buy it---which were several--daughter starting med school this fall, always busy at work, trying to finish construction on a new house, other day to day responsibilities etc etc etc---and then I just hit the button---don't ask me why.

All I can think is that years ago (1976) my wife (girfriend at the time) bought a little CVX 16 Galstron with an old 125 Johnson --that I as always doing something to to keep it running--but we had so many good times with that boat --that this one looked like that one on steroids and so now I'm hoping we get back in the boating groove.

I picked it up a week and a half ago--super nice guy that owned it--& he had several stories of action from calls he received after the ebay auction ended early on my buy it now---He said that when I clicked the buy button  that he was actually on the phone with a guy in Chicago who was working out the details of when and how to pick it up and transport it--and then bingo it was gone---and he had another guy in Australia that offered $1000 to both myself if I didn't buy it and $1000 above the sale price to him and then this Aussie would have it picked up in Albq transported to LA---and shipped to Australia---total cost to do all that we figured at around $30, 000 !!   so crazy ~~

We have had a series of snow storms every 3 to 4 days since I brought it home--so it's under wraps in the garage until I can get it out and get it ready for the water---I'll send pics in a few weeks-----sorry to bore you with the whole story--but life is funny sometimes---in the mean while  I would really like to find a nice cover---but I guess I'll have to have one custom made.

I will call on you for future help--it sounds like you are "the man" when it comes to Scimitars-
Have a good week!
Roger--aka mtn man

1980 Scimitar--travel / storage cover

Hi Roger,  Welcome to the site,  let me encourage you to add you boat to the registry and some pic's.  If you'd like, send me all the pic's you want and a little history of your boat and I'll create you a web page linked from the registry, that you can share with your friends.

Did you buy the green boat from ebay a few weeks ago ?

I have a cover for my boat thats old and kinda torn,  I'm thinking about getting one from ebay for about $175 that is towable but they are not water proof.  I got one of those silver and brown heavy duty tarp things from Academy Sports that has lasted two years and only cost $24.95.

The bimini kinda top you are talking about was an option for those boats when they were new,  some have had them duplicated for a cost of about $500,  they do look nice and those boats that had the enclosed cooling systems also could come with a heater,  kinda neat.

Take Care ... stay in touch
