I took the teak wood out of the boat and refinished it, looks pretty good. I went up to the hardware store and got me a quart of Muriatic acid for $3.95, layed the wood out on an ugly part of my driveway, knowing the acid would leave a really clean spot where the acid gets on it too, I poured the acid on the wood a little at a time and used a stiff bristle brush to scrub it up and the wood got real pretty. I put on a resperator and a pair of thick rubber gloves before I began this little project, that acid will take your breath away and burn your skin, but it's rapidly affected (diluted) by water and will wash right away, they use this stuff to clean swimming pools.
I placed the wood in the garage until the next day to dry, lightly sanded the wood with 220 grit, then I mixed up a batch of fiberglass resin, added enough MEK to make it thin as water, I added a little more of the MEKP than I normally do because I thinned the resin, and when I painted it on the wood the color came back real pretty.
I've used the fiberglass resin several times in the past, rather than varnish, and it never had to re-finish it again. Once I used the resin formula on a cedar bird feeder, a 4 ft tall wishing well, that set in my front yard and it stayed pretty for about 10 years before I mixed up another batch and painted it again.
