that's all good info! I think I'll use all those tricks... the lighter the better. may do a few mods other than the intake while it's out, we'll see. and yes, you KNOW the exhaust is going thru the hull!
I'm just hoping I get the donor boat... gotta wait for snow to melt so we can get it outta his yard, just hoping nothing happens to the deal between now and then. seems like a good guy, so we're going on each others word till then. some of the best deals are made that way, just a little nervous in the meantime. if it all goes thru, mine will be on the water sometime this coming season.
I glad for ya Steve, hope the donor boat shows up as planned, and Yes, get all the aluminum ya can for that baby. The 454 is 210 pounds more weight than the 350, and the Bravo I drive is a few pounds more as well, but that 454 has the punch to get the weight moving.
Going with the aluminim exhaust and intake manifolds makes almost 145 pounds difference, and if you can go aluminum heads, another 45, the little high torque starter is 9 pounds lighter than original, and another biggie to check out is the flywheel, using a 4.3 flywheel is 15 pounds lighter(I think) and gettin rid of the "Y" pipe, going through the hull is about 18 pounds moreÂ
the Scimitar stays!!! and, if all works out, I will have a donor boat by the end of the week. I have been thinking about it, and if I were going to buy a complete turnkey Scimitar, I would just end up ripping it down in a few years anyway, so, this is the one.
if this donor boat works out, it will be going 454/bravo 1... and a whole lot of aluminum pieces... heads, intake, manifolds, etc. to get the weight back down to a small block, but with the extra power potential.
I will post what happens, keeping my fingers crossed... I want this drive train!!!
Ok, the reality is that I am just not going to be able to take on this project. My business needs all my attention, and it is looking like that is about to get VERY busy as I am taking on new contracts, and there is another large supplier in the area that is going to be selling and relocating, so there is a big customer base there that I am going to attempt to take on. So... mine is the one in the thread about the "Symatar" in NY. I went to Long Island to pick it up, it is now here in central PA under a tarp. there are some pics of it there on that thread. it is a project!!! the upside is that the motor was rebuilt in 2000, and was only ran a few years after that, so there should be a good 260hp Chevy there. the Volvo outdrive is complete and doesn't show any cracks that I've noticed, so it may be able to be ran, I honestly don't know. I was gonna switch it to Mercruiser. the trailer is not included, I had to borrow that one to haul, and have been too busy to find another. I will gladly help someone get it on their trailer. I can't stress enough that this is a project and will need all of the same work that alot of the boats on this site needed. also in case you are wondering, it is not a glass windshield, it is plexi, and is probably only good as a template, as it is pretty hazy, and a little thin in my opinion. also, you would need to talk to OleRed about a set of new T-tops. and the rest as we know, is all in what you want to do with it. it was originally Persian Orange like OleRed's, not sure if the original gel could be restored after removing what's on it. what it has would clean up nice I think, if that is a color you would want.
