well, I will soon start a thread about my project, sorry I kinda highjacked your thread about your beautiful new heads! I will be in touch with your cam shop once I get my motor out. gonna have it checked over to make sure it actually was rebuilt and rebuilt well, check for cracks, make sure the deck is true, things like that. don't wanna find out the hard way that there is a crack somewhere that I can't see it, or waste a bottom end because someone overlooked something. just want to take a little extra time to make sure my monster is healthy!
I fired it up for a few seconds... man does it sound awesome! it's got 4" straight out the back. nice sound, and it jumps with the throttle!
I am happy with it... very happy. and yup, got a nice galvanized roller trailer with it too, should work very well for the Scimitar. it hauled this heavy pig nicely up I-95, even in the heavy wind, so it should do real nice for me. I'll give it a good looking over. honestly, the price I paid is about what most people would pay for the trailer, so, yup... very happy!
cant wait to get it all pulled out and get this smashed up thing off my trailer so I can start gettin at the Scimitar. having that thing in the water this summer is starting to look like a possibility.
Sometimes ya run across someone who will honor their word Steve , maybe you have met one. I can't give much advise on the big blocks, I haven't had much to do with them, but I can tell you this, for sure, you can get as much as One Hundred more horse power simply by just a cam change, with the right cam, on one of those motors.
I have a phone number for you to call, this is the fellow that builds my cams or me, he, in my opinion, is One of the best, and has been cutting custom cams for the winning racers here for a Lot of years, he sells on the internet also, be sure to ask for David ... 405-681-0666 in Oklahoma city
sounds like pretty high quality stuff. as long as the deal goes thru with my 454/Bravo, I'll have to look into these. I also have to look at what's available as far as exhaust with the big blocks having oval and rectangular port heads. depending on how things go, I may put it in stock and do heads, exhaust, intake, etc later, but I am hoping to be able to do most of it now, so I can put the cam in awhile. don't wanna have to pull out the back seat or the motor just for a cam later on, since all the other stuff can be bolted on in the boat. I guess if I don't go real wild with the cam, I could put it in now and run it with the rest of it stock for now.
we'll see, I may be getting ahead of myself since the motor is not in my hands yet, but I did talk to him again yesterday, and he is sticking to his word, so it looks like a done deal, I just wanna have it here so I can exhale...
The owner of the business called me this morning to verify the spec's I requested for the heads, I thought that was pretty neat that he wanted to be sure they assembled them to a customers satisfaction. He ask me the application I was going to be using them for, the pistons, cam, ignition and what fuel delivery system, I told him I was using the Scat 383 crank kit, he said that was a good combination, he also said the motors with these spec's are producing from 420hp to 440hp. the compression will not exceed 10.5 to 1 and I will be able to run the 91 octane with a concervative timing setting with no problem, and the knock sensor will also detect a detination knock (ping) and confinsate for it.
I have done quite a bit of research on these motors, with the cam I'm running now, the horse power peak is 5800 to 6000 rpm, the valves, runners, springs and retainers they are installing on the heads are capable of turning 6500 rpm, and they assemble, pressure test and true every head before it's packaged for shipping, thats the difference between buying from a full scale engine shop, and an on-line parts store.
The differences between the fuel injection system and a properly set up carborated system often has a minimum dyno varience at wide open throttle, but often prove the fuel injected systemmore efficient at low and mid range rpm.
Good score! Only question I have is, where is that gonna put your compression? still pump gas?
I was wondering too if you are gonna have them gone over for true surfaces, castings, etc... I see the same company offers Big Block heads, looks like a way to gain some HP and shave some weight, just wondering what kind of quality they are... might be real nice, I just have no idea, I've never used anything from them. maybe you already have experience with them.
I couldn't help myself ... there were 5 sets on a 7 day sale with Free Shipping, Surely she will understand ! Aluminum ProComp pressure molded castings w/2.02 swirl polished stainless steel vavles, hardened seats, locks and retainers, "Z" springs, angle plugs, 64cc chambers and raised 190cc runners, screw in studs and guide plates.
