Right on. I just ordered alll the engine parts. Machine shop owner has a car he needed painted. Last thing will be exhaust. Will look into ordering that shortly.
I think you can save several hundred bucks buying the ProComp heads, thats what I bought, like the Chevy fast burn heads, the roller cam I use is custom ground here in Okc and can be bought online for about $150, the hyperutectic flat pistons are about $140 . The spec's I built my motor too is thumping out 425 hp, by the opinion of the guy's at the machine shop, the new motor I'm building has a base line of 420 / 440 hp. I have all the parts bought, the most expensive part was the MPI, the Edlbrock carb and intake is several hundred cheaper .. all together to date, with the mpi ... about $4200 including the Thunder exhaust manifolds, the GLM manifolds is what I ran on the other motor, the Only issue with those manifolds was that I had to use the "short" valve covers.
My take on it .. if you can build the motor you want for your boat, and plan on keeping it for your own pleasure .. do it your way, don't worry about what it's worth, or what you got in it, build it to suit you and go enjoy the heck out of it.
I was thinking more about the complete edelbrock kit carb, intake, alum cyl heads, cam, lifters, etc I wonder how they would work with the glm manifolds? I'm thinking it would be making closer to 410 hp. WOW. The only problem is all that is going to cost around 3200.00 which is half of what I already have invested. I haven't even driven it yet.
Yes ! I wish you would go weight that baby as it is, and Yes again, there Edlbrock combo is a Good Move, you can buy the new carb for about $300 and the intake is about $150 and the Big thing you can get for that baby is the aluminum GLM center rise exhaust manifolds from Dennis Moore for about $700
This is very good info for me. I may have to run the boat out to the scales to see how much it weighs with the engine out. I have the engine at the machine shop, the block was cracked. A recon block was only 600.00 (ha only). Should have it back this friday. I'm debateing to buy the edelbrock performance package (only another 1500.00 ha ha ha). It would crank up the power to about 350 hp on pump gas. We'll see.
When I took Barb's lower unit to the shop today, I hooked up to my Scimitar and pulled it to the public scales. Based on the brochure weight, approx 1850, I assumed it weighed in about 2100 / 2200 sitting at the dock with a little gas in it ... Wrong ! the boat weighed 3340 sitting on the trailer with-out the motor. There is about 25 gallons gas in the tanks, all the interior, life jackets, oar, fire ext, anchor, ropes, battery, the drive thru assy, and I weighed the drive also 94 pounds with the prop and lube, The trailer weighs 960 pounds, so just the boat, drive and all the gear, the gas, weighs 2474 with-out the motor. I'll weigh it again when I put the new motor in it, and we plan to weigh Barb's boat when we get done with it also. I find the weight of boat stuff interesting.
