what kind of HP are ya talking about?  I am looking for a motor, although I am a long way from that point.  Still trying to figure what I'm gonna do on a tank too.  Really want one in the belly, but may end up doing something else.

We had a Great Time, more steaks cooked that we could eat.

Paul's boat is in the driveway tonight, doing a couple days test and training on the lake, got-er-done !

I think Chad's boat will be here the 16th or 17th, come on down any time.

Hey Red, thanks for the invite, but I figured since it was our first anniversary probably should spent it with just her.  Besides the wind was absolutely horrible.  After you get Chads boat in and start marking centerline on transome and tearing into it a bit, how about giving me a day or two heads up and I'll give you a days worth of free labor for some Q&A and experience.  Depending on when and what I have going on might be able to do two days.  Have a cousin getting married on the 24th.  Let me know, maybe we can work something out.  Have a good one.

Look what showed up at my place today!!

I like the tank in belly for balance for sure, but I'm not going to build another tank like I did for Gary, Way to much time involved, and expensive, for the cost of the time and materials, I will buy the next tank, for my boat .... Well, maybe, I still have an idea to build the tank into the boat, half the time and cost ??

I bought the 20 gallon tank I just put into Pauls boat, "Reds Gold" but we are fixing to rename that one, "Money Penny" after the secretary in the James Bond movies.

Paul is going to be here the 11th to pick it up, Chad's boat will be here the 16th, Gary's boat was delivered a couple weeks ago, and I think the other boat is in Austrailia now, I'm about ready yo get to work on my own boats when Chad's boat leaves.

Hey ole Red, how ya been?   Ya got Chads boat yet?   What are you're thoughts on a gas tank like Bills,  I like the one in Geary's boat, looks like it would be more balanced and less weight on the nose.  I know that Bills is more of a factory gas tank, but does it rob HP, or MPH or hole shot?  What are you're thoughts here?  Got a project boat I'd like to talk to ya a bit about sometime.  Thanks

I make a refference mark of the centerline on top of the transom box, as well down the transom, locate the existing "X" dim getting a correct measurement to the sides of the hull, because when the hull is split, the transom bow will "sag" downward some, especially when the box is cut to move set back the drive, the transom gets reall flimzy, you can actually lift the transom box from the stern up and down a couple inches.  Having a true reference mark gives  you the measurements to rebuild the transom box to where the top part of the hull will fit the split seam when you put it back together.

I also tape a strait edge to the back of the hull at the strakes for a lateral measurement to work from, that way you know the vertical line is true.

Hi again!!!  So red, getting pretty close to splitting the hull!!  I read in one of you're other posts that you like to mark center line of transome, before you remove stringers and all that.  Mine  have been removed up to the dash area, so what do you recommend on marking center of transome for cutting new Key hole on the new transome, maybe after transome mod??

I used to have a clasified forum, back then I had seven forums, cost became an issue, so I down-sized the site, you are welcome to post anything you want to sell or trade right here on this one.

good luck

Red, I may have missed it, but if you don't have one, what about a for sale/trade section on the forum?  I have that roller trailer ,and thinking I may need to off load another boat project.  Just a thought...

Red, there is a black coating on the underside of the hull of my boat.  what is the best way to take that off?  Also I have that 1/4" 'hook' on the bottom of the hull, that you showed in the pic of Geary's boat, I believe.  Just build it up on the inside and grind smooth outside?  P.S. went to the lake this weekend!!  Had some friends go with us, they have a pontoon and we did some good on jug lines!

No, I don't have an old stringer, but you can get the demintions using a string line, masking tape, marking the depth of the stringer at 6" intervals using a measuring tape. pretty important there to use a laser or stringline side to side to be sure the stringers are the same so the floor is flat

Wow, small world! Marvin Hembree bought a mini jet boat that belonged to my younger brother! Do you know if he got it going?

RE: Look what showed up at my place today!!

I like that statement  "out in the barn messing with the scimitar"

wish I had a Barn :)

The thing I learned about the tank in Gary's boat, it took about $500 in material, no foolin, and10 days building, waiting on the vinyl ester resin, the epoxy sealer, and epoxy coating to set up, each 12/24 hours befor the next lay-up was layed up,  more time envolved than I ever expected.  The tank came out about 47 gallons, 10ft in length, 21" width and 6" at the center depth, 4" to the sides, 4 baffles, the another day seting the fill, vent and pick-up tube.  It would have been a lot easier to have built in into the hull, but I was persuaded not to do that by the folks that build the fiberglass tanks in Florida,  Oh Well, it's done now, but I don't think I'll do another one just like that one, I'm planing on building the one in my next one into the hull, I don't have to adhere to the regulations the folks in Florida have too.

I ordered an aluminum 22 gallon tank a few days ago to put in the belly of the gold boat I'm working on now, I don't mind sharing what it cost, $580 for the 22 gallon tank, about twice that for the 47 gallon tank, I thought I could save money building the tank I built, but the time involved to build it was way over the top for me.

Checking the hull with a string line will certainly show you the condition of the hull.  I used the laser to set up the work cradle first, level both ways, side to side and end to end, like leveling a pool table,  then shimmed and blocked the hull the same way before I layed in the stringers.  The video I took with the laser was after the stringers were in place, to show the hull was true.

One of the good things about seperating the hull is giving you access to the gas tank, and most of the boats that has set for a long time, the tank, antisiphon valve, and pick-up screen is most likely contaminated.

Hey Red, been out in the barn messing with the scimitar.  Don't have it apart yet, but am pretty sure the gas tank is gonna be in poor shape, I was wondering what a guy would have to pay for a tank like what you put in Geary's boat?  Was also wondering about how you use the laser on the hull to see if it is true.  Would a guy be able to stretch a string under there and do the same thing?    Thanks   Troy

That's what's so cool about scimitars, people who have never seen one freak out. I had my eye out for your boat coming through. Glad it arrived safely! Are you familiar with the scimitar that sat just outside Lamont on hwy 60 a few months ago? Really nice. Good luck with your project! Chad PS good looking dog! American bulldog?

Billy, the guy who delivered it said every time he would stop For gas someone would ask if it was the "night rider"boat?  Or the James Bond boat?    He also said a cop was flying by and about the time he got even with his pick up door he hit the brakes and slowed down enough to get to the back of the boat then eased back up to front of the boat then eased to the back again, just checking it out, then just took back off.  He did not know a thing about it, not who manufactured it, what make it was, but he said it is defiantly a head turner.  I got a kick out of it, and thought you all would as well.
