RE: '82 Scimitar

Guys...thanks for the tips.  Also will post some pictures once I figure out how.

T-Tops....yes I have tried swapping the two sides...same loose issue either way.   My locks are also loose and giggle "open" as the boat moves as Red describes.  Maybe velcro or the fish line ideas will be good ones to try?

Gas Tank...Pelican Bill.   First question I have to ask is how you received your name.    :)   :)      Thanks for the pictures on gas tank removal.   If I can ask the following questions:

What was the problem you were having that you removed the tank.   Mine is I can only get 10 gallons in the tank until it is full.

Do I have to actually cut out an access hole in the fiberglss or just remove the upholstered hatch and floorboard?

I assume you removed any gas before trying to pull the tank out?

Bill....have some more questions however maybe better to talk on the phone if that's possible.

Guys...thanks much for all the help here and sorry for the length/questions.

Welcome Robertf to the site,     I am Pelican Bill, and I have posted some photos of the gas tank removal process here on the forum. If you scroll down to these two subject topics you can view some pics I took in order to document the effort. #1: "Scimitar gas tank removal" on May 7, and # 2: "Losing that messed up gas tank" on Mar 31 of this year. I would be happy to provide you with more specific information about the how to if you are interested. Best regards,  Bill

Mine fit loose if they get swapped side to side. Have you tried swapping sides?

Welcome to the forum
post some pic's of your scimitar
The gas tank and sending unit is a frequent issue with these boats, they came with a 36 gallon aluminum tank, barely accessible.
Pelican Bill got his tank out with-out splitting the hull, he will jump in here and give you details.
The tops are suposed to fit good, but the little latches they came with were prone to "giggle" loose, but were adequate as long as they were adjusted properly and checked Often, I done away with the latches on "Reds Gold" and used a velcro strap on each corner, worked well for 5 years.

'82 Scimitar

Guys...new to the forum.  You guys seems like a world of knowledge so...here it goes!   :)     Have '82 Scimitar I bought a couple of months ago.   Couple of questions:

T-Tops....mine do not seem to fit real snug....wondered if all are like mine.   Fit ok however don't snap tight on both snaps with either of the T-Tops.  I can see how you guys are talking about these things blowing off at speeds.   Any suggestions or...is this just the way they are.

Gas Tank....I can get only 10 gallons of gas in this beast till it runs out the vent tube at the gas station.  I know I ran the boat until it ran out of gas to make sure I got all the gas out (or at least all it would give me until it ran out).  I have no idea what may have happened in the past (previous owners) or if the tank was replaced to a smaller one.  I have not tried to crawl up inside the bow yet (nor do I know if I can yet).    :)      Any ideas....bad pickup tube or ???    Also can the tank be pulled out without pulling the deck apart??  Doesn't seem so.....

At any rate I love this boat.   Have refinished CV23 also which gets looks however I can't stop at a gas station with the Scimitar without spending 20 minutes talking to someone who's interested in checking it out.   Fun.
