I run out of time and money for the through transom exhaust, and the power steering is right in the way, but it's still on my mind, I could probly still do it with 3" through-hulls. The manifolds are in a little different position now, about an inch higher, but still inline.
I dropped it in by myself, just a little bit at a time. I have some friends that are always willing to come help but I didn't want to ask on mothers day.
I still got to put on the ignition control module and hook everything up, and hope the ignition system works, and I have to graft the harness to the old one ... Hmmm. If I'd concidered how much modification this new motor was going to be in This boat, I may not have begin this deal. The vortec heads are so close to the exhaust manifolds a spark plug socket won't put the plugs in, had to use a thin wall boxed end wrench, and there was not enough room between the manifolds and valve covers for the oil dip stick, so I had to install an after market stick and tube and form it outside the manifold. They're performance 4" manifolds, I didn't realize they were bigger than the original mercruiser.
The carb is sitting on an Edlebrock performer, it's a dual plane but it's almost two inches taller than the original manifold, by the time I get the spark arrester on it it will be real close to the engine cover, and I still have to get an electric fuel pump, the vortec block don't have a place for the original.
I'm really not complaining ... I don't think, maybe just venting, just that it has been alot more work than I'd concidered, and I want it to be right.
