Just to let you know.. I've bought a seat console from a Chevy Astro Van. Seems to fit great. I'll post pictures when I install it. It's too cold know in the barn.
The electric seats in these boats were the passenger side seat from a 1979 GM, like the Cadilac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado, I believe most all the GM seat mechanism of that era were basically the same, as far as switches, electric motors, and drive cables. The drive "shafts" on these seats are actually a speedometer cable, shortened and the ends squared to fit into the drive motor and gear box, the squared ends, and cables are usually available at local automotive transmission shops. The seat mechanism it self would have to be found at an automotive salvage yard, or, and obsolete parts warehouse.
I spoke to Art Carlson about those seats, he admitted that the seats were for automotive production, and didn't hold up very well in the boats, the action package was not treated in any way for marine use, and were quick to carode in marine enviroments, but they were Cool, and drew a lot of attention.
I took the seat out of my scimitar, give it to a fellow that was restoring one back into it's original state, but for Me, I like the idea of being able to turn the seat around and face the passengers, not committed to a forward only direction, that being said, the boat I recently brought home from Colorado, I'll leave that seat in place, it all works just fine, it has been kept inside all it's life, and very well cared for.
Hi,
I am currently restoring a 1980 Scimitar and would like to have some informations regarding the 6 way seat. I have bought the boat without the electric seat components and have no clue how to rebuilt that
Thanks for your help,
Thiemo.
If someone has parts for the seat let me know
