That's a funny thing about your boats, It sounds like me four years ago. I had a 1984 18' Sea Ray (needed complete everything), 1974 CV-16 same story but I did finish that one, 1974 24' Cruisers Yacht (I was working on a OMC stringer mount swap to a Mercruiser) all boats a project... and I lived in a 956sf house talk about being boat poor! Oh I forgot to mention the friends bass boat i traded refinish and carpet work for a 1988 90hp Mercury OB for the CV-16. All I can say is if you put the hard work into that CV it will bring a decent price at least $3-4,000 range and if all of the drive parts are as good as you say just find a good motor. A lot of people are swapping the OMC to Mercrusier because parts are everywhere and it's cheaper to make them faster. I agree the young generation needs to learn what appreciation is, but if it sparkles or looks sharp & fast they will pay.. and the easiiest way to sell a boat is to play with it on the water early April / May and the folks on the bank will be looking hard with a pocket full of tax returns..LOL
Thanks for the advice what motor combo would recommend. I got the boat in a trade Girlfriend hot happy LOL. Whats new she wont's me to finish my sailboat a 1973 Seafarer 31 and I have 2 Bayliners in line 1974 25' Saratoga Hardtop and a 1988 33' Command bridge I might end up living in one. and now this one and its all in pieces but i thank its all there and the seats and trim have been done a plus for me the next challenge well be the gel coat never done that I have painted a few cars in my younger days. was hopping some young guy would see this and have to have it but the kids don't do that any more.
Welcome to the site. Now those boats are a pretty easy sell and you pretty much don't need to do a lot to push a sell, but the only fight will be that Volvo as that was a dog on the water. Mike the best way I have found to sell a boat on a forum is to show it in the water along with a short video. Just post some pictures and we all be happy to check it out. I restored a 1974 CV-16 Super a few years ago and was only able to put it on the water twice before the May 20th 2013 came along but that is hind site and now I am working on a CVX-20 Sprint and I am going to power it with a Mercury Verado 250hp out board. Good luck and happy to have you on the site..
